Women Celebrating Life!
By Paula Fellingham, CEO of The WIN
The truth is that most of us don’t like getting older because we lose things as we age!
That’s right, you know we do. We lose our smooth skin, good eyesight, strong muscles, and big chunks of our memory. But what we’ve gained is significantly more important. We’ve gained wisdom, empathy, perspective, and most importantly, an increased ability to love.
No, we can’t run as fast or jump as high, but we appreciate more and worry less. And we’ve learned that we just aren’t as concerned about what other people think about us, and that gives us freedom to do what we really want to do.
You can sense it. You know you’re transitioning because you’re bolder than you’ve ever been. You’ve waded through life’s muck and now you’re more clear about what you want. Parts of your life that you’ve been tolerating for years have now become intolerable. You don’t know what lies ahead, but you’re ready to figure out what comes next.
Many of us believe that along the way, while we were raising children, endlessly multitasking, or getting promotions, we set aside some things that now we want to retrieve: our dancing shoes; our screenplay; a law degree.
The need now is to be authentic. Whatever we’ve silenced should be voiced, whatever we’ve set aside should be picked up, and whatever good we haven’t lived should be experienced.
Right now in America there are fifty million women 40 and older asking, “What’s next?”
We’re not “over the hill,” we’re on top of the hill, looking at the endless possibilities before us!
And we’re not in a crisis, we’re on a quest ~ searching for ways to reinvigorate our lives.
Ask us, and we’ll tell you that we want to connect with one another and make this season the best time of our lives. But how?
I believe that Women Celebrating Life is a solution.
This wonderful new organization shows women 40 and older how to reinvigorate our lives as we explore new possibilities, discover new gifts, and connect with other women heart-to-heart.
It’s a sisterhood of celebration, self-improvement, and service.
The over-arching mission of Women Celebrating Life is to help women experience deep joy and fulfillment, making these their best years ever!
Women Celebrating Life members believe:
This season in our lives is a time for inner work – a time to bring our beliefs and our actions into harmony.
This season is for remembering. Remembering who we truly are. Remembering the visions, hopes, and dreams we created years ago. This is a time to come fully into our own, reclaiming our passion and vitality.
This is the season when we bring ourselves back into the picture and attend to our neglected or forgotten needs and longings.
This season is a time of reckoning, because gravity has begun to have its way with us! A flat stomach may be a distant memory, and we may have to borrow someone’s reading glasses to read the menu. Yes, our breasts have sagged, our hips have expanded, our chins have doubled, but our minds are sharp, our souls are wise, and our hearts are soft.
Of course we feel guilty about what we didn’t do and things we could’ve done better; we’re women and we all do it! We regret a bunch of decisions from our past and in quiet moments we anguish over things we can’t change now.
We even occasionally peek over our shoulders and wish for our youth again.
But most of us agree that we don’t want to go back and do it all again. What we want is to stand on the foundation of our experiences and hard-earned wisdom, take everything we’ve learned and everything we’ve become, and use it all to create a life that is deeply fulfilled, purposeful, and overflowing with love and joy.
There’s a lot of advice nowadays about how to survive menopause, how to nip this and tuck that. But until now there has been no practical template on how to:
- create new meaning in your life,
- retrieve your youthful passion,
- connect on a heart level with like-minded women,
- develop new skills with supportive friends,
- serve women and families worldwide,
all in one organization.
The good news? Women Celebrating Life has created that template.
Members of WCL are exploring new passions and developing their talents in a myriad of ways. With the urging and support of new friends, some women are trying things they’ve never tried before, like playing the piano, writing a children’s book, or painting.
And that’s not all. Women are finding great joy in serving worldwide. From Kentucky to Kenya and from Tallahassee to Tokyo, women and families yearn for help. They need the help of kind, caring women.
Some WCL women are choosing to take their lives in whole new directions and they’re happier than they’ve ever been. These women reveal that this season in their lives doesn’t feel like a crisis at all. It feels like a celebration!
As I thought and prayed about this organization, I came to the conclusion that we’ll only succeed long-term if we offer very real solutions for significant needs and concerns common to all women 40 and older. So I defined five of these:
- Need: To know we’re not alone with our concerns and sagging skin.
WCL’s Solution: We’re a sisterhood; we’re there for our members 24/7 offering love, support, and encouragement.
- Need: To know clearly how we can best use our time and talents during this season, and to believe we can contribute in meaningful ways.
WCL’s Solution: We help you with your plans and dreams, and with the beliefs that will make them happen. (We’re dream believers!)
- Need: To know how to overcome the obstacles in our lives.
WCL’s Solution: We show you exactly how to hurdle every barrier in your life and excel like you’ve never excelled before.
- Need: To have the tools and resources we need to enrich our lives.
Solution: We provide many tools and resources to help women make these their best years ever!
- Need: To know how to fill our cups so we can give love better from our overflow.
WCL’s Solution: Your cup will fill to overflowing as you join like-minded, caring women in celebration, self-improvement, and service.
We invite all women 40 and older to join us! Reach out to your girlfriends and let’s grow this beautiful organization together.
